Why is Goddess Mahagauri Worshiped on 8th Day of Navratri?

 

 

Each day of Navratri festival is dedicated to one of the nine avatars of Goddess Durga. The nine avatars are named as Shailaputri, Brahmcharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandmata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri, and Sidhidatri. The eighth day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Mahaguari. She is immensely powerful and worshiping her is instantly fruitful. The devotees of goddess Mahaguari enjoy a peaceful and satisfied life and all their sins of present, part lives get washed away and they get purified in all aspects of life.

Eighth day is dedicated to Goddess Mahagauri.Mahagauri is peaceful, intelligent and calm. As the name suggests, Mahagauri is extremely white. In her upper left hand, she holds a thorn-like weapon, which is made of iron and she holds a dagger in her left hand. She is pure, white as conch, jasmine and moon. As per the legend, she developed a dark complexion due to her long penance and austerities in the deep forests of the Himalayas. And, when Lord Shiva cleaned her with Ganga Jal (water of the holy Ganga river), her body once again became beautiful and she got her new name as Mahagauri, which means extremely white.

Worshipers and devotees of goddess Mahagauri are blessed with prosperity, happiness, health and joys of life.

Navratri festival is celebrated with immense enthusiasm by all Hindus and devotees of Goddess Durga and Shakti. The goddess is worshiped in all her 9 incarnations throughout the Navratri. The 9 avatars of the goddess include: Shailaputri, Brahmcharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmanda, Skandmata, Katyayani, Kaalratri, Mahagauri, and Sidhidatri.

Seventh Day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Kaalratri - one of the fiercest forms of Goddess Durga. She is believed as the destroyer of all ghosts, negative energies and bad spirits. Therefore, Kaalratri is the one who removes darkness. Goddess Kaalratri is believed to be the most violent goddess among Navdurga (the nine avatars of goddess Durga). She has black complexion and her appearance arouses fear among the evil. Her open red tongue, large fiery, red eyes, and sobre on hand violently demolish monsters and devils. Devotees also glorify her with name 'Kali Maa'. Devi Kalaratri has three round eyes, and long, scattered black hair. She wears a bead that shines like fire of electric power. In her Kaalratri avatar, the goddess destroys the dirt and demons from their existence. She rides on gadarbh (donkey).

She blesses her devotees with long life and freedom from fear of any kind.

Navratri – Third day of Navratri is dedicated to Goddess Chandraghanta

On the third day of Navratri, goddess Chandraghanta is worshiped with great reverence and respect. Chandraghanta - the name derived from the fact that after marrying Shiva, Parvati adorned her forehead with half-chandra (lit. moon). She is the embodiment of beauty and is also symbolic of bravery, and hence, the color of the day is yellow.

Navratri falls in the months of September or October in India. Devotees of Goddess Durga celebrate the 10 days and 9 nights long festival with immense joy and enthusiasm. Beautiful pandals are decorated and public celebration is held. People participate in folk dances, dandiya and Garba, to show their respect and reverence for the almighty goddess Durga.

Nine avatars of the goddess are worshiped during the nine days of the festivities. While Shailaputri is worshiped on the first day, the second day is dedicated to Brahmcharini, third day is dedicated to the Chandraghanta avatar of the goddess, fourth day is for Kushmanda Mata, fifth day is dedicated to Skandmata, and Katyayani mata is worshiped on the sixth day, whereas day seventh is dedicated to the goddess Kaalratri, on the eighth day goddess Kaalratri is worshiped and goddess Sidhidatri is worshiped on the ninth day of the festival.

SynapseIndia Foundation Day celebration in 2018 at Sariska Palace, Rajasthan

SynapseIndia celebrated its Foundation Day away from the mundane city life, this year in 2018. Enthusiasm and joy was at its peak among employees as the management had organized an outing to the great Sariska Palace in Alwar, Rajasthan. 

The celebration began with the employees reaching the royal resort where they received a grand traditional Indian style welcome (with welcome arti and tilak). The performance of folk dancers added to the joy of being there. Everyone was so happy. Birds (like ducks, peacocks, sparrows, and cuckoos) were all moving here & there. SynapseIndians were busy clicking their selfies in the awesome palace, so that the moments can be kept in their cameras for a lifetime. 

The celebration became more memorable with outstanding dance performances by professional dance troupe, funny jokes by comic artist, and a lot of entertainment and, of course, great food.

SynapseIndia celebrated the country's 72^nd Independence Day with immense enthusiasm and feeling of patriotism and love for the nation. Tricolor was the theme of the day and everyone was dressed in the shades of Indian Tricolor Flag – green, saffron, white and blue. 

The office was fully decorated with the tricolor flags, balloons, ribbons, etc. Activities, such as quiz about the country, legends, and freedom struggle, team building activities and other patriotic activities were organized at the office to ensure that each and every employee gets true feeling of Independence Day. 

Prizes were given away to the best dressed male and female employees as the theme was any shade of tricolor flag or ethnic Indian, traditional wear.

SynapseIndia celebrated the 72^nd Independence Day of India with immense enthusiasm. Patriotism and love for nation was in the air and everyone was so enthralled to celebrate the great day with peers at office on the eve of the Independence Day. 

The entire office was decorated with the beautiful tricolor balloons, flags, and ribbons and all SynapseIndians were dressed in the shades of tricolor – saffron, white, green and blue. 

To add to the joy of the celebration, the human resource department organized various team building activities, quizzes about Independence Day and freedom struggle, etc.
